The dawn of new technology in Southern African railways
Amsted Reelin an Amsted Rail global partner, is introducing exciting new rail technology to Africa.
Ushering in the latest advancements for rail freight wagons, Amsted Reelin aims to address the challenges and limitations related to traditional bogies – the framed wheelsets under rail carriages. Bogies are the backbone of freight wagons but their weight, complex construction, multiple moving parts, and the need for frequent, specialised maintenance all lead to a high cost of ownership of the traditional units. Using modern technology for rail freight wagons, Amsted Reelin has developed an innovative motion control bogie to ensure reliability, performance and ease of maintenance. The motion control bogie has achieved Transnet and AAR M-976 unconditional approval.
Features of the Amsted Reelin bogie include:
- Passive steering using individual steer- ing pads
- Lightweight, weighing only 3 400 kg
- Plug and play solution, interchangeable with current fleet as per MK7 bogie
- Reduced number of overall components
- Reduced maintenance intervals and costs
- Reduced total cost of ownership
- Increased load capacity
- Enhanced safety and reliability
- Durable components
- Consistent friction-damping to protect wagons and tracks
Amsted Reelin provides all the original-equipment manufacturer solutions needed for under a railcar, including bogies, bearings, draft gears, wheel sets, end-of-car systems, braking equipment, adaptors, and bogie components.
The company uses digital technology to track, trace and monitor assets. Amsted digital solutions use Internet of Things end-to-end telematics focused on unpowered assets, like wagons. It employs a combination of high-performance, ultralow-power sensors to monitor and report on parameters such as temperature, load status, wagon condition, and asset security. The cloud-based solution transforms raw data into actionable intelligence and predictive maintenance.
Amsted Reelin is committed to delivering quality railway products while continually improving its processes and productivity.
